The Global Trip
Each Sunday at midnight CET (23.00GMT) the last hour of Mark Dezzani's Caroline South show features 'The Global Trip,' a one hour themed melange of music & sound-bites. Check here for details of upcoming specials.

The Global Trip Sunday 19th & 26th January 2003 featured the annual MIDEM event (International Music Industry Market) which took place in Cannes 19th-23rd January 2003. We featured music from new artists at MIDEM and the artists participating in the Gaia World Event which took place Monday 20th Jan at 18.30 in the Palais des Festivals.

It was a pre-premiere of a musical project by Alan Simon. The Gaļa event includes a 90min movie. A planetary tribute to which the endangered nomads on earth bring their knowledge and understanding of the world. From the Himalayan peaks to the heart of the Amazonian forest, this amazing adventure will be concluded by a planetary concert scheduled in Paris, September 2003. The project features music from Billy Preston, Justin Hayward, members of Supertramp, Jeremy Spencer (former Fleetwood Mac) and Manu Dibango amongst others.

The Global Trip broadcast Sunday 29th December 2002 was called 'On Time.' It was dedicated to Mark's TV production colleague and great friend Thierry Moriamé (pictured left,) who sadly died recently. Thierry was in the middle of producing a three part TV series about 'Time' with Australia's leading physicist Paul Davies. It will be distributed by Carlton International. The hour featured music from Pink Floyd, Al Stewart, Rolling Stones and Chick Corea amongst others.

"Time is a great teacher; unfortunately it kills all of its pupils." Hector Berlioz

Other Global Trip themes in the past year have included; the Prisoner TV series (see below), cars, Andy Warhol, Riviera Holiday, the cult of Elvis, Cannes Film Festival special, pornography, Radio Geronimo, John Entwistle Tribute, Radio Zodiac, Summer, Africa, Reggae and special interviews with Peter Gabriel, Dave Stewart, Gary Mudbone Cooper and Dr. John.

Sunday 6th January 2002, Radio Caroline South paid tribute to the the cult 1960's TV series, The Prisoner.

Starring Patrick McGoohan and set in the picturesque and idiosyncratic village of Port Meirion, The Prisoner was a landmark series covering issues such as education, drugs, computers, politics and the use of violence or coercion to achieve an end. Rebellion against the stifling of individuality is an allegorical theme running throughout the series.

The programme was first aired in 1967, the year that Radio Caroline was outlawed by the British government and the ethos and spirit of our station can be compared to the rebellion of the programme's central character, Number 6.

2002 is the 25th anniversary of The Prisoner fan club, 6 of 1 and on Sunday the 6th of the 1st Caroline South dedicated The Global trip (23.00 GMT / 00.00 CET) to this influential TV series. Take a voyage through the Prisoner's village of Port Merion by clicking on the red bike logo which will take you to a site compiled by Caroline listener and Prisoner fan Chris Martin.
